* Want to amaze your friends with magical illusions ?
* Interested in Magic and Magicians ?
* Are you between the ages of 7 and 17 ?

If you answered YES to this 3 questions then the Society of Young Magicians (SYM) is for YOU !  What is SYM you are asking  yourself ?  It is sponsored by the Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.) and is a world wide organization for youth, ages 7 through 16.  At age 17 you graduate to membership in the Society of American Magicians.  The purpose of S.Y.M. is to promote interest in magic as a wholesome hobby that will help develop self-confidence and skill, the ability to speak in public, discipline that comes from learning, practicing and performing magic, and a sense of service to others through helping others lean magic and by performing magic at charitable events.

The Society of Young Magicians has nearly 100 local chapters, called Assemblies, around the country. Adult supervision and instruction are provided by qualified members of the Society of American Magicians, one of the most prestigious world-wide organizations of its kind.
Where and When our assembly meets ?

It meets at 6:00PM on the 3rd Thursday of each month at
Bayview Senior Center
located at:
2000 E. Lloyd
Pensacola
, Florida

                                                                                                                                                 What's Up?

Thanks to Cynthia Beck who will replace Tyler Reid on our support group as Tyler is moving to NY.

The annual S-Y-M Contest looks like this . . .  Performers:  Connor Peet, Justen Metsch, Ben Stanhope, Megan Metsch, Julius Oliver, Keven Beck and last years winner ~ Ben Vath.  Special guest performer who will "kill time" while the judges are counting the points ~ GCMG member, Charley Mack.  Master of Ceremonies, Victor Vath.  Stage manager:  Perry Vath with Jason Beck helping as Stage Hand.
What I need now, is to recruit 2 people to hand out programs. I will muster up someone the night of the contest.

The GCMG annual Public Show will be held Saturday November 15 with the 1st place winner of our contest performing.  7 Pm showtime and will be held at the Bay View Senior Center.

Thursday, November 20 will be the GCMG Annual Awards Night banquet and show.   (No more information on this as of this date).

December 18 (Thursday), S-Y-M Annual Awards will be given.

S-Y-M Member with the most points:  "Magician of the Year".  (As this stands now it close between three members).
S-Y-M Member with second most points:  "Honored Magician of the Year".
100 plus points:  "Sorcerer's Circle Award".
50 plus points:  "Outstanding Member Award"
December 18 will also be the GCMG/S-Y-M Christmas Party.  All S-Y-M members are invited to attend the GCMG meeting/party.  Lots of food and as a rule an outstanding magic show.

Our S-Y-M group is going to lose several members as the "New" Teen-age group is being formed.  We do have, however, two prospective members who should join our group soon (I hope).   As it stands now, we have 21 members and should hold that number if we can get a few new members to join.  If you can think of any friends or know of anyone between the ages of 8 to 15 that have an interest in magic, invite them to a meeting.

I will have an up-to-date S-Y-M membership list to give to all on the  S-Y-M Support Group in October.

2008 was a good year for our group.  Let's hope that 2009 is even better!  Any idea's and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

"Thanks for your help",

Harley Day
