PICNIC
50+ members and guests. 18 pounds of pulled
pork. 1 bouncy castle. 40 items auctioned off. 32 hamburgers. 1
beautiful day. 40 sausage sandwiches. 7 performers in a magic show. 25+
salads and deserts. What do you get when you add all this up? The GCMG 2008
picnic. By all means, this was out best ever....
The afternoon started off with the temperature
in 90's, but we were saved by the shade of the trees and a nice breeze. At
2:00 PM the bouncy castle was opened and was occupied non-stop for the
entire party. Besides the children, many club members and their family
members were observed jumping and being tossed about in there.
By 2:30 PM most everyone had arrived and at 3:00
PM Jason Simonds and his wife Stephanie treated everyone to 18 pounds of
pulled pork that took Jason 18 hours to prepare and smoke. It was amazing
to watch it disappear. Actually it completely vanished!
There was lots of time for magic talk and fellowship
Beau and Bruce then manned the grills are cooked
up platters full of hamburgers, hot dogs, Italian Sausage and
cheeseburgers. They too disappeared in record time along with salads, fresh
fruit, beans, chips and countless deserts. I suspect everyone put on a
pound or two...
It was then time to rest and digest with more
magic talk and magic.
It was auction time and about 40 items from the
Wayne Jones estate were auctioned off. Once again, many members got some
real treasures for a very reasonable price. Thanks to Nathan for keeping
track of all the bids and collecting the money.
Next we had our annual picnic show. Seven
members participated.
Magic picked up a new fan, Tony Walstad who
giggled and laughed throughout the show.
Jim Studebaker and other unknown accomplices
built Bruce Walstad an award for support of the GCMG. It is a beautiful (?)
trophy consisting of a pedestal with a jock strap attached signed by all the
members present. Sorry, no photo available.
The picnic wrapped up with more magic talk, fun
and fellowship. Thanks to everyone for all the food and drinks they
brought. It was a great picnic!
