GCMG ANNUAL FAMILY PICNIC
On Sunday, June 14th, the GCMG hosted its
annual family picnic. What a fantastic picnic we had this year! It was
difficult to get an exact number of those in attendance, but a best
guess would be 40.
The weather was a bit on the warm side, but was tolerable with the shade from the trees and a nice breeze.
For starters we rented a huge water slide
and a gigantic slip and slide. In addition to our member's children and
grandchildren on the slides, it was quite interesting to see many of our
members slipping and sliding. We did learn by adding some baby shampoo
to the slip and slide, you slid much further and faster. Not sure if
this was a good idea or not, as several members were observed sliding so
fast, they went over the end barrier wall and down into the grass.
Also, as a result of the shampoo on the slip and slide, everyone went
home very, very clean and smelling like a baby. The only time the
slides were not in use, was during dinner.
Speaking of dinner, we had more food than
ever. Besides the chicken and pork, provided by the club, everyone
brought something. There were salads, fruit, vegetables and of course
about 10 kinds of desert. Actually, there was so much food, that most
everyone took home a "doggie bag". A special thanks to Jason Simond for
smoking and preparing the pulled pork. It was great!
We had a few special guests this year.
Michael Baker and his wife Theresa stopped by for a while, as he was in
the area to do a show. Another old friend of the club, Bill Riales and
his son, Jack dropped by as well. Bill is the former host of the WKRG-CBS
morning show out of Mobile.
We did not have a show this year, but there
was a lot of magic going on here and there throughout the day. As
always, there was a lot of magic talk going on as well.
The children and grandchildren kept busy all
day with the water slides and the swing and slide play set. Actually,
the day flew by and it seemed the party had just gotten started, when it
was time to leave.
